The University of Nebraska is our state’s premier institution, attracting leading research, top academic talent, and excellent students, while providing opportunities for economic develpoment throughout the state. We must help the University continue on the path toward educational and research preeminence by attracting outstanding faculty and students while maintaining a commitment to accessible and affordable education for the citizens of our state.
That is why I am running for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
The University has been good to my family, granting a total of nine degrees to my wife, our three children, and me. My candidacy is inspired by my desire to support an institution that has meant so much to us and to all Nebraska families.
I know the University can enhance the quality of life for all Nebraskans. We can start by making college readily available to more STUDENTS, and encouraging GRADUATES to stay in Nebraska FOR WORK. This will lead to what University of Nebraska President, J.B. Milliken refers to as “brain gain” instead of “brain drain".
I will use my business experience to support NU’s research as a tool for economic development—applying technologies from NU’s research labs to create jobs and provide opportunities that keep our best and brightest in the state.
As Regent, I will encourage academic freedom, supporting our research scientists in the pursuit of exciting advances that can improve living conditions, reduce suffering, and save lives.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. With your help, I am confident that we can win this election and build a brighter future for the State of Nebraska.
Best regards,

"I am enthusiastic in endorsing Earl Scudder to serve as a Regent of the University of Nebraska. During my time as UNL chancellor, Earl was a valued member of the Committee of Visitors, serving as Chair of its Economic Development Committee. Because I valued Earl's vision and judgment, I appointed him to serve on the Vision 2020 Task Force, which helped develop a long-term academic strategic plan for UNL. Nebraska needs regents who understand and support the academic mission of a great research university and who will defend that mission from unwarranted political intrusion.”
James Moeser
Chancellor,
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
former Chancellor, UNL
