Lincoln Journal Star Endorses Scudder for Regent’s Race
The primary newspaper for Lincoln, Nebraska has correctly identified Earl’s “notable” service on the 2020 task force and other university committees as one aspect of his experience that lends strength to his candidacy. The newspaper also noted Earl’s experience as chairman of Class.Com as evidence of his ability to take a university-incubated business and develop outside funding to enable the profitable transfer of the entity to the private sector. A champion of academic and scientific freedom, Earl supports embryonic stem cell research as a method to find cures, ease suffering and save lives. “He said he would use his business background to control costs and help keep tuition affordable.” |

In light of this research (reprogramming adult stem cells to
behave as embryonic stem cells), many nonscientists suggest it is no longer
necessary to pursue embryonic stem cell research, but nothing could be
further from the truth. The consensus with the responsible scientific
community is that the process of reprogramming adult cells cannot be
realized without continued research in embryonic stem cells."

My wife Phyl and I have known Earl Scudder for over 40 years. During that time Earl has served in numerous leadership positions for NU, including the UNL Committee of Visitors, the Vision 2020 Task Force, as Chairman of the NU College of Law Alumni Council and President of the UNL Parents' Association. He has been available to volunteer for whatever the University needed. Because of our great respect for him and for his service to the University, we feel there is no one more qualified than Earl Scudder to serve on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
